HVAC and Envelope Upgrades

This project involved the evaluation, recommendation, and design of replacement HVAC systems and building envelope upgrades to align with the Guard’s operational and energy efficiency objectives. Our team was tasked with assessing the performance of existing rooftop units and fan coil units, identifying deficiencies related to system sizing, outside air ventilation, and thermal loads, and developing solutions to improve overall system performance and code compliance.
Our team developed and presented up to three viable HVAC system replacement options, with considerations for energy efficiency, maintainability, and system capacity and the selected option was advanced in accordance with the latest edition of ASHRAE 90.1.
To support ongoing facility operations, the HVAC system design included a web-based graphical interface for remote monitoring and control, enabling operations and maintenance staff to access real-time system data and respond quickly to performance issues.
In addition to mechanical systems, the project scope included a building envelope assessment, with design recommendations for the replacement or repair of windows, doors (particularly the south-side storefront system), and masonry systems. The envelope evaluation focused on improving thermal performance and addressing any deterioration through targeted tuck-pointing and component replacement. Attic areas were designed with new spray foam insulation for better thermal performance.
